Safe Dating /

Yes, dating is fun and exciting, but you have to make sure that you stay safe. Getting caught up in the moment can result in being put into a dangerous situation. So we have listed a number of handy hints to ensure that you are always safe on your date, as well as having a good time!

1. Meet in a public place /

Unless you have met the person a few times before, or you met them through a friend whose judgment you trust, on the first date don’t let your date pick you up from your home address. Meet in a public place where there are people around or a local landmark that you’re both familiar with, and then head to the location of your date.

2. Pick a venue you have been to before /

Pick a venue that you have been to before. In addition to the reassurance of knowing you’re going to somewhere that has a good atmosphere, you have the added comfort of knowing the area, the staff, and the safest way for you to get home.

3. Don’t drink too much /

Drinking too much will blur your judgment, and you may end up doing something you regret. Yes, it calms the nerves, but it’s not worth putting yourself in a situation that you don’t have 100% control over.

4. Don’t leave your drink unattended /

It only takes a second for someone to slip something in your drink. Keep your drink with you at all times, and if your date goes to the bar then accompany him, or have the barman bring your drinks over.

5. Get a licensed taxi home /

If you’re not driving, then pre-book a taxi home so that you know you will be getting home safely. There is plenty of time to let them walk you home, or go back to theirs after future dates, so don’t feel pressurised into doing anything you don’t want to.

6. Let someone know where you are /

Always let a friend or family member know where you are. Text them the address of the venue, and your plans for the evening and if they change.

7. Do your research /

Sounds a bit stalker-ish, but it can’t hurt. With the wealth of information available on the internet, it’s a good idea to just do a quick background check or have a look at his profile on social networking sites (if he has one) to get a feel for his character.
