Reigate is a market town of great historic interest. It is situated at the foot of the North Downs in the English county of Surrey, England. The town is in the borough of Reigate and Banstead and is with the London commuter belt to the capital. Reigate has Neolithic flint mines meaning that people have been settling here since the bronze age. Riegate was noted in the domesday Book but under the name of Chercefelle which means the ‘open space by the hill’ roughly translated. The present name Reigate is thought to have originated because the town was locate at the entrance of the de Warannes Deer Park, derived from Roo – deer –gate. The parish of Reigate seemed to flourish once the railway station came to town, that ran to Brighton. Reigate today is a commuter town with direct trains going to London Waterloo at peak times. The town has two historical windmills, the Post mill at Reigate Heath and the Tower Mill at Wray Common.
