Farnham, a town in the county of Surrey and just near to the border of Hampshire is located 42 miles south-west of London. The town is of historic interest mainly due to the high numbers of Georgian houses in the town. Farnham has a castle that overlooks the whole town; it is called simply Farnham Castle which was under construction in 1138. It was Henry De Blois that started to build the Castle; he was the brother of William the conqueror and also brother of King Stephen. It was built as somewhere for the Bishop of Winchester to stay on his travels between Winchester and the capital. Farnham used to be a successful market town therefore old shops are located running along the main high street rd all the way up to west road. On the first Saturday of each month there is always a town fayre that sells bric-a-brac , arts and crafts. And on the first Sunday each month there is a farmers market which is held undercover at the Farnham Maltings. Farnham Maltings is a popular place for events such as gigs, opera and markets. It also is host to a open mic night every Friday night where the local students flock to at weekends.
