Bagshot is situated in the north-west of the county of Surrey in the south-east of England. It lies quite near to the surrey border near the county of Berkshire. In the old days Bagshot was known as a staging area on the way to Southampton, london and the west country. You can still see some Coach Inns in the town today that remain. Bagshot is located on tn junction 3 of the M3 motorway and is on the road between Sunningdale and Camberly. Bagshot is considered to be in the Green Belt of surrey surrounding London. The pub in the village called the Golden Farmer gets its name from Bagshot’s most notorious Highwayman William Davis; he was a local farmer who took to robbing the many stagecoaches that ran through the town on the stage coach routes. He was eventually caught in the pub which was then called the White Hart Inn and hanged. The pub changed its name to the Golden Farmer as William Davis was renowned for always paying with gold that he had stolen. There is also a roundabout named after him called the Jolly Farmer as he was known to live close by.
