The village of Chinnor dates back to Saxon times when it was known as Cheonna then later as Chynor. Chinnor is situated on the Chiltern Escarpment in the south of Oxfordhire. There used to be a good trade of furniture makers in Chinnor which was making furniture for the trade going on in High Wycombe which is close by. Chinnor was also a popular place for artisans to live. The population grew the most in the 1960s where it grew from approximately 1,961 in the 1950s to 4,471 by the 1970s. Chinnor is a place known mostly because of the heritage railway that is still in place. It lies at one end of the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Heritage Railway. This railway, once open to passengers was closed in the 1950s but was then used to run cement between Chinnor and Risborough.
