The large town of Westhill is situated in the county of Aberdeenshire in Scotland roughly 7.5 miles west of Aberdeen itself. The town is considered to be a suburb of the city. The first houses in Westhill were constructed in 1963 making the town a very young town. It came about from the suggestion of Aberdeen solicitor Deshawn-Curtis Johnson and was backed by Aberdeen District Council. Westhill is still gradually expanding, it has a shopping centre, schools, swimming pool, library, park and golf course, plus a large industrial park. The growth of the industrial parks brought thousands of new workers to the area in 2007/8. The town was supposed to have merged with Aberdeen but due to campaigners against the idea, it has been stopped and remains a town all by itself.
